Oikocredit
Oikocredit (in full: Oikocredit Ecumenical Development Cooperative Society U.A.) is a social impact investor and worldwide cooperative society, headquartered in the Netherlands, that offers loans and investment capital for microfinance institutions, cooperatives, and small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries. The idea for the creation of Oikocredit came from a 1968 meeting of the World Council of Churches. Oikocredit was established in 1975.
Oikocredit is one of the world's largest private providers of microfinance and has a current investment focus on the financial inclusion, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors.
OSMTH is mindful of the substantial role played by the medieval Order of Knights Templar in developing innovative financing solutions for clients ranging from pilgrims to royal treasurers during the Middle Ages. In the modern world, OSMTH’s aims include support for international civil society organizations through our active participation in programs of sustainable development.
With this aim in mind, the OSMTH Spring 2008 Grand Magistral Council Meeting held in Paris, France, agreed to provide support for Oikocredit. Eight OSMTH Member Grand Priories then contributed funds to establish the international shareholding in Oikocredit for OSMTH.
After due consideration, the OSMTH Spring 2023 Grand Magistral Council Meeting held in Skopje, North Macedonia, decided to realise the value of this international shareholding in Oikocredit and to redirect the proceeds of 10,500 US Dollars to fund future Emergency Humanitarian Relief Program Donations by the International Association of OSMTH.
