The HALO Trust in Nagorno Karabakh, Syria, and Ukraine
The HALO Trust, as a non-religious and non-political charity, has been an innovator in, and a world-leading proponent of, war debris clearance and preventative educational programmes since the introduction to the international community of the concept of “humanitarian mine clearance” by the then Hazardous Areas Life-support Organisation (HALO) in 1988.
OSMTH notes that The HALO Trust’s early Annual Reports explained that the “original concept…” of The HALO Trust was “…of a medieval order of chivalry, in which old knights, hardened by the wars, keep the roads open for pilgrims to Jerusalem”, and that both organisations thus share a common source of inspiration for their current missions; which they then seek to put into practice in ways appropriate to the needs of the modern world.
