The HALO Trust in Nagorno Karabakh, Syria, and Ukraine
The HALO Trust, as a non-religious and non-political charity, has been an innovator in, and a world-leading proponent of, war debris clearance and preventative educational programmes since the introduction to the international community of the concept of “humanitarian mine clearance” by the then Hazardous Areas Life-support Organisation (HALO) in 1988.
OSMTH notes that The HALO Trust’s early Annual Reports explained that the “original concept…” of The HALO Trust was “…of a medieval order of chivalry, in which old knights, hardened by the wars, keep the roads open for pilgrims to Jerusalem”, and that both organisations thus share a common source of inspiration for their current missions; which they then seek to put into practice in ways appropriate to the needs of the modern world. 2022: The Halo Trust – Nagorno Karabakh
OSMTH made a donation of 2,000 Euros to the HALO Trust to contribute to the safety and livelihoods of the local population, as well as to the accessibility of buildings of great cultural and historic significance in the region, specifically through the following:
- Mine, bomb, and war debris clearance; and
- Preventative education of the population, which teaches families how to stay safe when they return home and begin to rebuild their lives.
2021: The Halo Trust - Nagorno Karabakh
OSMTH made a donation of 2,000 Euros to the HALO Trust to contribute to the safety and livelihoods of the local population, as well as to the accessibility of buildings of great cultural and historic significance in the region, specifically through the following:
- Mine, bomb, and war debris clearance;
in response to the continuing conflict between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces.
2020: The Halo Trust – Syria
OSMTH made a donation of 2,000 Euros to the HALO Trust to contribute to livelihoods and recovery of local population, specifically through:
- Providing prosthetics to childrne and adults at a clinic in Al Bab, a city in Aleppo Governorate in northwest Syria, for amputee survivors of accidents with landmines and other explosives;
- Preventative education of the population, which teaches families how to stay safe when they return home and begin to rebuild their lives; and
- Mapping landmine accident data to improve precision and efficiency of future clearance plans;
in the context of the continuing civil conflict in Syria.
Emergency Relief Donation:
2022 The Halo Trust – Ukraine
OSMTH made a donation of 1,000 Euros to the HALO Trust for the following:
- Landmine & war debris clearance;
- Delivery of emergency professional medical services; and
- Provision of first-aid training for civilians;
in response to the renewed outbreak of conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
